Josh Freeman Is Getting Played

So according to this NFL.com article http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap1000000239257/article/josh-freeman-not-a-captain-of-tampa-bay-buccaneers Josh Freeman has been “decaptained” by the Tampa Bay Bucs or should I say Head Coach Greg Schiano. Who does these type of shenanigans?

If the writing ain’t on the wall for brother Freeman I don’t know what is. Let’s see:

- Your team refuses to extend you
- They use a high pick to draft another QB
- You lose your captaincy because a “wide receiver” becomes more vocal.

Come on man! Ok Football is a business so I can get with the non-extension. Hey I’m fully behind having true competition at every position. But starting QBs don’t lose their captaincy unless they become the NFL equivalent of Manziel and even that’s questionable.

At the end of the day, I don’t see why it’s necessary to publicly castrate a young brother. It doesn’t help anyone involved including the Team.

Tony Romo has passed on playing the Azalea Invitational in Charleston, S.C., one of the better amateur tournaments anywhere, the local Adams Golf Pro/Scratch, which he has won in the past, and will not attempt to qualify for the HP Byron Nelson Championship or the U.S. Open.

It’s funny how money change a situation.

Serena/Sloane Friction

I made you.

If you are gonna call out Serena Williams, you better be prepared for what comes next. The latest to do so is the up and comer Sloane Stephens. Many casual tennis fans do not know who Sloane Stephens is. I like Sloane Stephens. She has her own interesting story, just Google her. She is the latest and brightest young black tennis prodigy to dare to follow in the Williams Sisters footsteps. So why did their relationship take a left turn?

Simple. Prodigy meets Guru. Prodigy beats Guru in a Grand Slam. All bets are off. Unfortunately for Sloane, when she beat the GOAT Serena at the Aussie Open earlier this year, it was not in the final. So as much as she gained from that historic win, without any hardware, it meant very much to Sloane and very little to the world.

I contend that this friction is all generational. Sloane being the precocious, unaware 20 year old and Serena being the sage 30 something. Something about the way Sloane handled the win at the time was off to me. She didn’t show the proper respect at the time and I knew it would come back to bite her later.

All of this talk about mentoring is overkill. Bottom line – the Williams Sisters “mentor” you from afar, if at all. Their very existence and what they stand for is the blueprint for all to follow. Yes, they opened doors for Sloane long before she ever picked up a racquet. They paid it forward if you will. All Sloane needs to do is thank them and move on. With the great ones, you often have to let them come to you, on their terms. Again I say it is generational. Somehow, Sloane thinks she is a peer of Serena and she can step to her in this way. Serena’s cryptic tweet shortly after the Aussie Open says it all - I made you.

For all of the cockiness the Williams Sisters (mainly Serena) get blamed for, anyone who has watched them over the years knows how much reverence they have for all-time greats Althea Gibson and Billie Jean King. Sloane needs to study her tennis history.

Memo to Sloane - win something first. I still like you Sloane. But you are not Serena. Not yet. Not ever. You didn’t do yourself any favors by inciting the great Serena Williams. Just ask Sharapova how that has worked out for her lately, she of the double bagel.

Scout: Geno Smith ‘spoiled, pampered brat’

The SportsXchange (via Yahoo Sports):

"He’s going to have a tough time in New York," the scout told ESPN New York said Friday. "Right now, he’s coming off as a spoiled, pampered brat."

A spoiled, pampered brat playing quarterback…?

Get the phuck outta-here!

"I think Tim can learn a lot from me"
ESPN.com:

OMAHA, Neb. — The Omaha Beef have a job waiting for Tim Tebow if he wants it — and the Nebraska indoor football team will even pay him $75 a game.
A day after Tebow was cut by the New York Jets, the Beef called the office of Tebow agent Jimmy Sexton to offer a standard player contract.
Beef assistant general manager Andrew Mather said Tuesday that he doesn’t expect to hear back, but he thought it was worth asking.
Tebow went unclaimed on NFL waivers Tuesday.
The Beef’s quarterback, James McNear, has led the team to a 5-1 start. He’s completing 70 percent of his passes and has thrown for 21 touchdowns against just two interceptions.
McNear is anything but insulted by the Beef’s wooing of Tebow.
"I think Tim can learn a lot from me," McNear said.
